Heavenly Father, we seek your guidance during this time of turmoil and change. We are reaching out to those who have been mistreated, and like your son Jesus, we are treating all with dignity and care. However, our reach can only extend so far. Father God, we need you to speak to those in positions of power – bring peace into their hearts and help them to work in ways that will care for each of your children. We are all your children, leaders and citizens alike. Help us to remember that and walk the narrow path together.
Dear God we pray for the Middle East, for the leaders in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq and all of the other neighbouring countries to Syria, that they may respond with compassion for the refugees. We pray that the refugees find safety and freedom in these new places – the peace that they have desired for so long. We pray for Europe. We pray for provisions to meet the needs of those who have been starving and who have been misplaced and run out of their country. We pray for all of the European leaders to provide food and shelter and to think of the refugees as their own family, as brothers and sisters created by one God, when making laws and setting standards for this refugee crisis and future ones. We pray that compassion comes into the hearts of the citizens of these countries to help offer funds to provide the basic needs to the refugees.
Creator God, we pray for Canada. We pray for Prime Minister Trudeau and those in parliament who have been arranging to welcome tens of thousands of Syrians to Canada. We pray for those who have already arrived. We pray that families can reconnect and children can sleep safely and that all people are welcomed with grace and dignity.
We ask all of this from you God. The God who has brought us out of our suffering. The God who has promised us love and given us love. The God who sent his only son to us, to show us His great love for us, His children. We are all your children, God. Help us to do better, to walk in your ways, to the glory of your name.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2: 1 – 4
